On September 19th, in coincidence with the first day of Feria Hábitat Valencia, we organised a very special event at the Colegio Territorial de Arquitectos de Valencia (CTAV): a round table focused on our iconic Lapala chair on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. Manel Molina, one of Lapala‘s designers and one of Expormim’s closer collaborators, designer, University teacher and consultant Javier Pastor and journalist and curator Tachy Mora led this colloquium about craftsmanship, design, culture and tradition. The event took place in the inner courtyard of the building, an elegantly refurbished space, and it was followed by a catering with live music.
The craftsmanship of rattan furniture fueled the growth of our company since its establishment. In the past decade, it also ignited change: by means of exploring the different possibilities of this natural material we stepped into an exciting new future. But rattan is not the only craft technique we have preserved and updated. There’s another kind of magic happening in our factory and it has to do with another humble yet versatile material: rope.
Horizontal living. In other words, laying down as much as possible. Summer is here and our system longs for a full reboot. We are ready for low energy consumption activities involving comfortable devices such as loungers, daybeds, hammocks, etc. No big efforts intended apart from book holding or glass lifting. Catnapping is allowed anywhere, anytime. No wonder outdoor loungers like Käbu chaise longue become the real deal.
Summer makes us thirsty in so many ways and the solution is always aquatic. Seas, rivers and lakes are great, but after an adventure day outdoors, could you resist the call of a fancy pool equipped with luxury furniture and frozen cocktails at hand? One last intimate dip at sunset and then relax in the most comfortable seating option available: a fabulous “pool” sofa.
The wheel of fashion turns today faster than ever. Hypes and trends come and go. Sometimes it is difficult to catch up and it can be even more difficult to escape from the frenziness. And yet, some designs never fall out of fashion. That’s exactly how Loop rattan chair, our newest seating collection for the indoor, was devised by Danish studio Norm Architects.
Our stand picked up the thread of our speech from where we left it last year. Signed again by Sylvain Carlet, there are some intrinsic values and references to it that have remained intact: our commitment to sustainability, our love for the Mediterranean in its widest and deepest sense, and our passion for greenery.
This spring we delve into the more technical exterior with highly customizable products, we focus on the importance of our commitment to sustainability and complete our offer with super elegant, comfortable, timeless, easy to handle pieces and, of course, suitable for sunbathing on the porch or by the edge of any pool, but with clear indoor purpose.
We want to pay tribute to our craftsmen because now more than ever they are the beating heart of Expormim. And for this reason, on this 10th anniversary of Expormim USA, as a special tribute to our craftsmen, we are giving away a Frames armchair devised by Jaime Hayon, handmade by our craftsmen and customized by you with the frame color and the upholstery that you like the most.
Spring always brings a sense of expectation, a craving for outdoor spaces, a dream of summer. Days are longer, brighter, happier. People meet outside: come to my rooftop, see you at the terrace round the corner, find me at that little bar by the promenade. We shake the last remains of winter and fill with summer vibes. Burn the old, bring on the new.
