Ladurée was founded as a humble bakery in the Madeleine district of Paris back in 1862. The first stone of the Garnier Opera House was laid that very same year. The quartier was quickly changing. A fire prompted the transformation of the bakery into a luxury pastry shop. Then, macarons, maybe the finest piece of French pastry ever invented, became its banner around the world. Now, Maison Ladurée tea rooms and boutiques are established far and wide. Since 2017, Norwegian-born, Parisian-based, interior and fashion designer Claudia Ravnbo has been the creative director of Maison Ladurée. Her distinctive modus operandi consists of capturing the flavour of Ladurée and adapting it to the identity of each country.

A chic Mediterranean sunroom in downtown Kuwait

Two rattan collections and a contemporary outdoor seating can be found at the chic indoor terrace of Ladurée tea room in one of the avant-guard malls the futuristic city of Kuwait shelters. This location, designed by Studio Ravn, replicates faithfully a shop in a Parisian boulevard: a neoclassical façade with moldings and lanterns with an awning in pastel green. All these elements frame the sunroom, filled with natural light pouring from the transparent vaults, where Altet rattan armchairs, Copa rattan armchairs, both designed by Studio expormim, and Petale outdoor chair by MUT Design, meet around differently shaped marble tables.

Classic rattan furniture

Copa and Altet are two of our classic rattan collections. They were created in the seventies and eighties and then revisited and updated in the past decade by Studio expormim. While standing as a tribute to our history and tradition, they have evolved to fit into contemporary spaces such as Ladurée tea room in Kuwait. On the other hand, Petale by Valencian studio MUT Design is a modern outdoor chair that brings back to memory the blossoming of a flower in spring, the soft touch of the textile covering its backrest and seat as delicate and warm as a petal. Dressed to match the shades of the façade and the awnings, they blend naturally in the sublime atmosphere of the salon, although true to themselves, they give off a little bit of that Mediterranean spontaneity and abandon we imprint in the design of all our indoor and outdoor furniture.
