rattan-benching and pool-lounging in LA
Hidden inside the cozy maze of amenities of Habitat Residences, one of the newest housing developments at Culver City, LA, sits our 2024 reedition of 202 Bench by Joaquim Belsa blending in with the myriads of custom pieces, vintage finds and artisan-crafted elements that build this unique “live-work-thrive” project.

Outside, two of our staple outdoor collections, Obi sunbed by Palomba Serafini Associati and Cask chaise longue by Norm Architects, line up orderly around the pool offering the most comfortable shaded seating. Could this be the next level of a haven of rest?
In a world of amenities, find your 202 Bench to wind down
Habitat includes a 12-story residential building and a 6-story creative office building. But the project also offers retail, landscape and extensive amenities.
In the lounge area, with its rounded edges, soft curves and earthy tones, surrounded by recognizable symbols of Southern California like indigenous masks, rattlesnakes, and wooden-carved pieces inspired by cave art, we find three 202 Benches. 202 Bench is a rattan work of art, a refined example of modern craftsmanship deeply rooted in our Mediterranean tradition. 202 Bench is an original design by Catalan industrial designer Joaquim Belsa, known for his austerity and love for natural materials.
Expormim’s 2024 reedition honors Belsa’s functionalist will. Thanks to its elegant sinuosity, pure rattan lines and exquisite manufacturing, 202 Bench merges effortlessly in the design stance of the firms responsible for the project, interior designer Kelly Wearstler and LA based Jules Wilson Design Studio, whose aim was connecting nature with the urban environment through the use of terracotta tones, deep sage hues, natural stone, and rich wood finishes, like those found in the dramatic landscapes of Southern California.
Italian or Danish? There is no such dilemma!
Choosing between a double sunbed or an individual lounger is easier when you know it is a win-win situation. Whether you opt for Obi daybed or Cask chaise longue, one thing is for sure: you will be lounging comfortably and with style.
Obi outdoor collection by Palomba Serafini Associati includes this double daybed, wide enough to share, delicate to the eye, but tough enough to endure harsh weather conditions and the wear and tear from continued use. The distinctive Japanese-inspired belt of Obi outdoor collection, soft touch and soothing palette work together to notch up the pool experience.
Cask chaise longue by Norm Architects, with its curvy silhouette, is the closest you can get to a fluffy piece of cloud. Elegant, comfortable, resistant and highly functional: thanks to its lightweight aluminum structure and wheels, it can be easily moved. Cask outdoor collection brings the minimalism and simplicity of Scandinavian design to the edge of the pool.
Habitat Residences are yet another proof of how the pandemic modified the urban way of living. According to Ryan Burton, Director of Development at Lendlease, the real state and investment group behind this project, “people are looking for a community that feels tailored to their lives”. And this is what Habitat offers at the heart of Los Angeles.
