Twins low armchair has received the distinction “Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017” excelling among thousands of products submitted from all over the world. More than 5,500 entries from 54 countries were submitted this year to the competition, a fact that highlights the importance of the achievement. As he already did in 2014 with the Nautica swing chair, Alberto Sánchez from MUT Design Studio has delivered a remarkable design worthy of one of the most important international design awards.
In order to appraise the diversity in the field of design, the Red Dot Award is divided into three disciplines: Product Design, Communication and Design Concept. The Red Dot Award is organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and it was convened for the first time in 1955, being one of the senior design competitions in the world. Nowadays the Red Dot has become an undisputed seal of quality, much coveted by designers and manufacturers worldwide.
The jury, formed by 40 independent experts from different countries in order to guarantee the high quality standards and the value of the Red Dot seal as a synonym of good design and innovation, has stated that “the Twins collection is distinguished by its classic appearance of a comfortable chair, which has been designed with high-quality materials for the outdoor area but equally shows to advantage in indoor environments”.
The Red Dot Gala will take place in the German city of Essen on 3 July 2017 followed by the Designers’ Night party where the winners will celebrate their prize together and will receive their certificates. For five weeks, the special exhibition “Design on Stage” will display the awarded products as part of the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design in the Red Dot Design Museum of Essen
